WELCOME TO BEST NOTES TUTORIALS
TODAY WE WILL PREPARE A DEBATE ON THE GIVEN TOPIC WHICH IS “THERE SHOULD BE NO DRESS CODE IN SCHOOLS”
SPEECH FOR THE MOTION
A very good afternoon to
eminent judges , teachers and my fellow friends.Today,I ,TANISHKHA RAWAT, from
class IX A stand before you to support the motion of the house which is “THERE
SHOULD BE NO DRESS CODE IN SCHOOLS”
Dear audience “Is there any connection of knowledge with
attire?” The reputed coaching centers are not very strict about uniforms and
yet every year we witness magnificent performances by youth in UPSE, NEET, NDA
and many more, I ask ,where is the requirement of uniforms?
It’s said “we should practice that we preach” but do we pay heed
to such great quotes of life. We talk intensely about our fundamental rights
and school caters opportunity to teach about freedom of expression, but
unfortunately at the school gate we violate the same as without a uniform we
become some weird creature who doesn’t fit in the post that we hold with our
qualifications.
Dear audience, Indian constitution highlights the importance of
gender equality but it’s only in black and white , in schools where uniforms
are specifically gendered (girls must wear skirts and boys must wear pants),
transgendered, gender-fluid, and gender-nonconforming students can feel
ostracized which results to the under-performance of the child.I would like to
cite an example -Maddy of Mumbai, a 16-year-old transgendered boy, stated,
“sitting in a blouse and skirt all day made me feel insanely anxious. I wasn’t
taken seriously. …This is atrocious and damaging to a young person’s mental
health; that uniform nearly destroyed me.” We sympathize with her but not the
institutions.
I have heard my fellow friends saying bullying, body shaming,
inequality can be erased by introducing uniforms but I firmly say “NO” it
doesn’t, Enrollment at Washington High School in South Bend, IN, has declined
43% since the introduction of school uniforms in 2006; and a 2017 survey found
that 82% of the current students opposed uniforms. In an interview students
stated that they get distracted from studies when they have to be concerned
about uniforms.
It’s very disappointing but it’s a fact, the prime motive of
uniform introduction is to mint money. The push for school uniforms is driven
by commercial interests rather than educational ones. According to a research
INDIANs spend around $1 billion on school uniforms every year. Retailer J.C.
Penney Co. says school uniforms are “a huge, important business for us.”
Dear audience, at last I would like to quote Late satirist
George Carlin here, “Don’t these schools do enough damage, making all these
children think alike? Now they’re gonna get them to look alike, too?”
By this I would like to end the case but not the cause, THANK YOU
SPEECH AGAINST THE MOTION
A warm and pleasant good afternoon to respected judges, teachers
and my fellow friends, this is Ayesha Pariyar from class XI ,BI standing before
you to put forward my contradictory views on today’s topic that is, “THERE SHOULD BE NO DRESS CODE IN THE
SCHOOLS”
Dear audience, before I speak on
my topic, I have a question for all , have you seen an army officer in
their uniform? Haven’t we all got motivated to achieve their status? the answer
is yes, undoubtedly , we get enthused and motivated when we see an army
personnel in uniform, I personally feel
a sense of pride when I see my mother in uniform who is an NCC officer but my
feelings aren’t same when she is in casual dress, this is the charisma of
uniform , and it’s applicable to all the institutions, I believe,in order to
bring about a change in the world we need motivation which is catered by
“UNIFORM” solely , friends , the quote “THE MOTIVATED SOUL CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS”, is apt at this point.
Dear friends, the incident of January 2022,Karnataka, India is
not forgotten by youth yet ,where a girl from particular community demanded to
wear hijab in the school and the city of Karnataka along with other adjoining
areas were set ablaze by the anti-social entities… another incident of a
Punjabi youth in Bangalore disturbed the
peace of the place when he was not allowed to wear his religious turban in the
class…to avoid all such sort of religious differences among people the role of
“UNIFORM” becomes indispensible.
Dear audience ,parents send their beloved children in the school
to learn in a safe ambience hence uniforms must be made compulsory for child’s
safety in the modern world—School uniforms allow teachers and staff to quickly
distinguish between students and strangers. These days, schools have to be
especially vigilant about predators, and those who want to invade the
schoolyard to take advantage of vulnerable students. Additionally, uniforms can
also help teachers keep track of students on excursions and allow them to spot
their students even in large crowds of people.
Dear friends, there is a huge fuss about uniforms being
expensive but LET ME INFORMS YOU that if the rate of the uniform is not
justified then its parents’ duty to ask for the explanation through RTI or they can file case under Consumer
protection act for deficiency of services and unfair trade practice.
Now I move to my next point..
When a child is in uniform it generates a sense of
belongingness, pride and loyalty towards the school such is the significance of uniforms in
institutions, this very act encourages the attitude of working in a team that
is reflected when they have to represent their school at inter-school events,
clubs, sports and competitions, and when they learn the values like empathy,unity,co-operation
the children are ready to lead their nation which brings laurel to the country.
At the end I would like to say “Uniform is an integrating factor
in itself which cannot be ignored at any cost.” By this I rest my case but not
he cause.THANK YOU.
